Mexicans know how to beat the real heat and have invented agua fresca, a refreshing drink made from water and fresh fruit. The combination of watermelon, mint, and lime is especially refreshing. Agua fresca not only provides a refreshing coolness but also infuses you with the beneficial microelements and vitamins found in the fruit.


Ingredients:

  • 4 cups seedless watermelon, diced (about 1.3 kg)
  • 0.5 cups of water
  • 24 mint leaves
  • 8 tablespoons superfine sugar (or less if watermelon is very sweet), divided
  • 4 very thin lime wedges, cut in half
  • Ice cubes
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the watermelon and water in a blender and blend until smooth. Divide the mint leaves, sugar, and lime wedges among 8 glasses and mash. Add ice to each glass and top with the watermelon agua fresca. Stir and serve.
