Irish Champ Mashed Potatoes with Green Peas - A Detailed Recipe.

1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

  • 6-8 potatoes in their skins
  • 1 cup fresh green peas
  • 3 finely chopped green onions
  • 1.5 cups of milk
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 4-8 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and ground black pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place the potatoes in a bowl and rinse thoroughly under cold running water. Place them in a medium saucepan and season with salt. Add enough water to completely cover the potatoes. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, until tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, place the peas and onion in a small saucepan, pour in the milk, add the sugar, and place over medium heat. Bring slowly to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 3-4 minutes, until the peas are tender. Turn off the heat and let the contents of the saucepan steep.

  3. Peel and mash the boiled potatoes while still hot, using a fork or a fine-mesh sieve. Add the warm milk mixture. Add a little butter and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with the remaining butter on top.
