For a richer, more intense mashed potato flavor, substitute sour milk and butter for the milk and mash the potatoes. If you prefer a smoother texture, run them through a potato masher or vegetable grinder. A few green onions make the perfect topping for creamy mashed potatoes.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 kg of yellow potatoes
  • 1 cup of sour milk or kefir
  • 110 g butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Place the potatoes in a medium saucepan, cover with cold water, and add 2 tablespoons of salt. Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, until tender, about 45 minutes. Drain.
  2. Peel the potatoes and return them to the pan (for smoother mashed potatoes, press them through a potato masher or vegetable grinder after peeling). Using a fork or potato masher, mash the potatoes with the butter and sour milk. Season with 2 tablespoons of salt and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Sprinkle with green onions.
