This huge, juicy burger is made with a thick beef patty and a generous helping of vegetables simmered in Caribbean jerk sauce. Carrots, zucchini, and bell peppers are cut into equal-sized sticks and fried in olive oil, then simmered in jerk sauce until tender. The jerk sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated; it will become even more delicious as it sits and the flavors meld. The ground beef patties themselves require no additional ingredients other than salt and black pepper. Grill them; the aroma of a charcoal grill is the perfect seasoning for a Caribbean burger.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Prepare jerk sauce:

In a bowl, combine lemon juice, olive oil, store-bought jerk sauce, Cajun seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Add the bell pepper, jalapeño, and garlic, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Prepare the vegetables:

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Add the carrots, zucchini, and bell pepper, season with salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables have softened slightly, about 5 minutes. Add 1/4 cup of the prepared jerk sauce and cook until the vegetables are glazed, another 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and cover to keep warm.

  3. Grill the patties:

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and brush the grates with canola oil. Form the ground beef into four 2-cm-thick patties and season generously with salt and black pepper. Grill for about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Meanwhile, lightly toast the buns.
  4. Serve the cutlets on buns with the stewed vegetables on top.
