Tropical Caribbean cocktails offer more than just the aromas of coconut, pineapple, and lime. One of the most popular Christmas drinks in Jamaica, the sorrel, is made with iced hibiscus tea. This refreshing, sweet and sour drink is flavored with ginger and mixed with rum.


Ingredients:

  • 170 g of hibiscus buds
  • 2 liters of water
  • 110 g thinly sliced ​​ginger
  • Ice cubes
  • Simple sugar syrup (as needed)
  • 60 ml lime juice
  • 110 ml of rum
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Bring the water to a boil, remove from heat, and add the hibiscus buds and ginger. Let steep for about 45 minutes. Strain.
  • Step 2
  • Place ice cubes in a shaker. For two servings, pour 60-90 ml of strained juice, 60 ml of simple syrup, a splash of lime juice, and a shot of rum into the shaker. Shake well and pour into glasses.
