Salted boiled peanuts are a popular snack in the American South. They're made using only fresh, raw (or, as they're called in the US, "green"), recently picked peanuts in their shells. They're boiled in generously salted water until the shells are soft. The longer you boil them, the softer and saltier they'll be, depending on your preference. Boiled peanuts are not only a nutritious snack but also a popular party snack. They pair perfectly with a cold beer.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine the peanuts and salt in a large saucepan. Cover completely with water. Bring to a boil and simmer for at least 1 hour and up to 3 hours.
  2. To check if peanuts are readyRemove one from the pan and crack it open. If they're soft, they're ready. If they're still slightly crunchy, they're not ready yet. If they haven't been salted enough, let them sit in some salted water and turn off the heat. Drain thoroughly before serving.
