These airy New Orleans-style donuts can easily be made at home in an air fryer, using much less oil than deep-frying. You can also make donuts from this same sweet yeast dough: simply cut it into rings and fry in an air fryer at the same temperature as beignets. Dust the finished donuts with powdered sugar or drizzle with a quick glaze.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 cups of premium flour + extra for working with the dough
  • 6 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (7 g) of fast-acting yeast
  • 0.5 tsp coarse salt
  • 1 large egg + 1 yolk
  • 0.5 cup warm whole milk (approximately 40°C)
  • 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, plus more for greasing the bowl
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cooking spray
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling
  • Special equipment: 3.5-liter air fryer

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix thoroughly. Add the egg, egg yolk, milk, butter, and vanilla and mix on low speed until smooth.
  2. Increase the speed to medium-high and knead until the dough forms a ball around the hook and is smooth and elastic, about 3 minutes.

  3. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead it lightly with your hands until it forms a smooth ball. Grease a medium bowl with melted butter and place the dough in the bowl, turning it over to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. On a lightly floured work surface, roll the dough into a square just over 25 cm (10 in). Trim the edges with a sharp knife or pizza cutter to create an even square. Cut the square in a 4 x 5 grid to create 20 rectangles. Cover the dough loosely and let it rise directly on the work surface for about 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Add half the donuts and lightly spray with cooking spray. Fry until golden brown, about 6 minutes. Add the remaining beignets and fry them in the same manner. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
