Give hot, gooey cheese sandwiches a piquant twist by spreading some gochujang on the bread. Fry them in butter until golden brown and the cheese melts, then serve as a beer appetizer or as a substitute for plain bread with creamy tomato soup.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 tsp. gochujang paste
  • 4 slices white bread (such as Wonder Bread)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 slices American cheese

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Spread the hot paste on one side of two slices of bread.
  2. In a large nonstick skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. If the butter begins to darken immediately, reduce the heat slightly. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom with butter. Place 2 slices of bread, buttered side up, in the skillet.

  3. Move them around the pan to absorb the melted butter. Place 2 slices of cheese on each slice and top with the remaining 2 slices of bread.
  4. Fry on one side until golden brown on the bottom, then carefully flip, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the pan, and let it flow under the sandwiches. Fry until golden brown on the other side.
