Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread. Top each of the 4 slices with 1 slice of American cheese and 1 slice of Muenster cheese; top with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Use a 2.5-inch ring to cut out the center of each sandwich.
  2. In a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter and swirl to coat the bottom. Place two sandwiches, including the cut-out centers, in the skillet and cook until golden brown on the bottom, 4 to 5 minutes. Flip each sandwich, crack an egg into the center, sprinkle the eggs with salt and black pepper, and cook until the sandwiches are golden brown on the other side, the egg whites are set, but the yolk is still runny, 4 to 5 minutes. Cover the skillet one minute before they're done to ensure the egg whites cook completely. Round sandwiches will cook faster. Transfer the egg sandwiches and round sandwiches to serving plates and keep warm. Wipe out the skillet and melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter. butter and fry 2 more sandwiches in the same way.

  3. Serve each egg sandwich with a round sandwich for dipping into the egg yolk.
