Even a simple side dish like mashed potatoes can be prepared so well that your guests and family will love it more than the main course. The secret to delicious mashed potatoes is their delicate, creamy flavor and perfect creamy consistency. This recipe combines three dairy products to create a truly delicious potato experience: milk, butter, and the secret ingredient—sour cream. Its slight tartness makes these mashed potatoes special and adds a rich, creamy flavor. You can mash the finished potatoes in a mashed potato strainer or use a potato masher. Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Cut the potatoes into 2.5 cm cubes and place them in a large saucepan. Cover the potatoes with cold water and add enough salt to make the water taste salty. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for about 10-12 minutes, until the potatoes flake easily when pierced with a fork.
- Meanwhile, heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan until hot, but do not bring to a boil. Set aside until the potatoes are done.
- Once the potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander. Place a sieve fitted with a small disc/blade over a glass bowl. Press the potatoes through the sieve, turning the handle back and forth to force the potatoes through the disc. Once the potatoes are mashed, slowly stir in enough of the milk mixture to create a creamy mash. Add 2 teaspoons of salt, sour cream, and pepper and whisk until combined. Taste and serve hot.
