How to Make - Cereal Bars: A Recipe

Choose a breakfast cereal


Choose 1-2 types, use 7 tbsp in total.

  • Puffed rice (regular or chocolate)
  • Cornflakes
  • Corn or rice paddies
  • Toasted oatmeal breakfast cereal (plain or chocolate)
  • Graham cracker breakfast cereal
  • Chocolate pillows


Prepare the base


Line a 9-inch (23 cm) square baking dish with nonstick foil. In a large saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons unsalted butter or coconut oil over medium heat. Add a 10-ounce (280 g) package of regular or mini marshmallows and stir until melted, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in 1/2 cup of nut butter, if desired. Remove from heat and stir in the cereal.

Add additional ingredients


Choose no more than 3 types, mix in up to 1.5 cups in total.

  • Granola
  • Nuts, chop
  • Freeze-dried fruits, cut into large pieces
  • Dried fruits, large, cut
  • Raisins in yogurt
  • Sweetened coconut flakes, toasted
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips
  • White chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Butterscotch Toffee Chips
  • Toffee pieces
  • Chocolate dragees in glaze
  • Sprinkles (no more than 1/4 cup)


Form the bars


Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan, pressing it down with a rubber spatula or lightly buttered hands. Let it cool, then remove it from the pan by the foil edges and slice.
