A non-alcoholic Thanksgiving cocktail made with blood orange, thyme, and non-alcoholic ginger beer makes this a light, bright, and refreshing way to start or end a big holiday meal. If you've never tried ginger beer, keep in mind that it's spicier and richer in flavor than ginger ale.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 0.5 cup blood orange juice + 2 blood orange wedges, for serving
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 large sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 and 1/4 cups ginger beer
  • 0.5 cup cranberry juice
  • Frozen cranberries, for serving

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Add the blood orange juice, sugar, and thyme to a small saucepan and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, and simmer for 2 minutes to blend the flavors. Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep and cool to room temperature, about 1 hour.
  2. Remove the thyme and strain the syrup through a sieve. At this point, the syrup can be covered and refrigerated until ready to use, up to 1 week.

  3. Add 2 tablespoons of orange syrup to 2 tall glasses filled with ice. Pour half the ginger beer into each glass, then half the cranberry juice. Stir and serve with frozen cranberries and a blood orange wedge.
