This stunning, exotic beef and vegetable soup is infused with the flavors of Asian cuisine. Sweet potatoes, radishes (which come with their healthy greens), and onions are simmered in a broth with a sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce. Ladle the finished soup into bowls and serve with slices of pan-fried sirloin steak with a crispy, teriyaki-flavored skin. To ensure the lean steak stays tender and not overcooked, cook it to medium-rare, then slice thinly across the grain. Drizzle each serving with dark sesame oil and enjoy the mouthwatering aroma and warming flavor of the soup.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 0.7 kg boneless sirloin steak (approximately 4 cm thick)
  • 1 bunch of radishes (with greens)
  • 5 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tsp grated peeled ginger
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. l. brown sugar
  • 2 small sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 0.5cm thick rounds.
  • 1 bunch green onions, separate white parts from green parts and cut into 4cm pieces.
  • Dark sesame oil, to drizzle

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Coarsely chop the radish greens. Cut the radishes into 8 pieces.
  2. Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Combine 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a bowl, then coat the steak.

  3. Lightly oil a grill pan, then sear the steak for about 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly.
  4. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, bring the remaining 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, 2 teaspoons ginger, vinegar, brown sugar, and 2.5 cups water to a boil and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Add the sweet potato, radish, and white onion and cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes.
  5. Add the radish and onion greens and cook until slightly softened, about 5 minutes. Divide the vegetables, broth, and steak among plates. Drizzle with dark sesame oil.
