Grilled bratwurst sausages with sauerkraut are perfect for a German-style dinner. Serve with fried potatoes with apples, green onions, and sage in a light honey glaze. Serve with sour cream and mustard sauce and a glass of cold beer.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 600 g red potatoes, cut into 1 cm pieces.
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cooked bratwurst sausages, halved lengthwise (about 600g)
  • 2 Golden Delicious apples, cut into 1cm pieces.
  • 1 bunch green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp. grainy mustard
  • 1 cup sauerkraut, rinsed and heated

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 120°C.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the potatoes, and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain and pat dry.

  3. Meanwhile, melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, turning, until browned, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet and keep in a warm oven to keep warm.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet along with the potatoes and apples; toss to coat. Season with 3/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper to taste. Increase the heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes and apples are golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Add the green onions and sage and cook until the green onions are wilted, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add vinegar, honey, and the remaining 1 tablespoon butter. Cook, stirring, until the potatoes and apples are glazed, about 1 more minute.
  6. In a small bowl, combine sour cream and mustard. Serve the sausages with potatoes and apples, sauerkraut, and sour cream sauce.
