These sandwiches are made with picadillo, a thick, ground meat sauce with olives, raisins, onions, and spices. This recipe uses lean ground turkey. Sauté it with the remaining ingredients in tomato paste and immediately place on halved, toasted buns. Top each sandwich with sliced avocado and enjoy!

Ingredients for the recipe:
- 600 g of ground turkey
- 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil + extra for drizzling
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 8 cloves garlic, chopped
- 3 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp. l. ground cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 tsp ground allspice
- 1 can (170 g) of tomato paste
- 1/3 cup golden raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped olives stuffed with pimento peppers + 2 tablespoons brine
- 4 soft sesame seed buns, halved lengthwise
- Sliced avocado, for serving (optional)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to 175°C.
- In a large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion softens slightly, about 2 minutes. Add the bay leaf, cumin, chili powder, and allspice; cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add ground turkey, 1 teaspoon salt, and black pepper to taste. Cook for about 5 minutes, breaking up any lumps.
- Add the tomato paste and stir until the meat turns a brick-red color, 3-4 minutes. Add 2 cups of water, raisins, olives, and olive brine. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer over medium heat until the sauce thickens, about 15 minutes.
- Remove the lid and cook, stirring, for another 3 minutes. Season the meat sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drizzle the cut sides of the buns with olive oil, place them on a baking sheet, and toast in the oven for 5 minutes. Spread the meat filling on the buns. Garnish with avocado slices, if desired.
