The American Reuben sandwich is a unique combination of dark bread, meat, sauerkraut, and melting Swiss cheese. This recipe replaces the traditional corned beef with thinly sliced turkey breast. They're served on rye bread spread with mayonnaise sauce and topped with sauerkraut sautéed with apples and green onions, and slices of cheese. Grill the sandwiches in the oven and enjoy a fantastic bouquet of flavors with tart, sweet, creamy, and spicy notes.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- In a medium saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the white part of the onion and cook for about 3 minutes. Add the sauerkraut and apple, season with salt and pepper. Cook until the sauerkraut is wilted and golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add half of the green onions and cook for another minute.
- Preheat the oven to broil. Combine the mayonnaise, chili sauce, remaining green onions, capers and their liquid, and the pickle brine.
- Spread about 1/2 teaspoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread. Place 4 slices, buttered side down, on a foil-lined baking sheet. Spread mayonnaise mixture on each slice, then top with turkey, pickles, and sauerkraut. Sprinkle with cheese and broil until the cheese is melted, about 2 minutes.
- Spread more mayonnaise mixture on the dry sides of the remaining 4 slices of bread; place buttered side down on the sandwiches. Return to the broiler and broil until golden brown, turning once, about 2 minutes.
