These whimsical taco appetizers are packed with all the flavors of a traditional taco. They feature spicy beef, crispy tortilla chips, juicy vegetables, and creamy sour cream and cheese. To make these appetizers look impressive, you'll need tortilla chips shaped like bowls. Each crispy bowl is inserted into a raw beef meatball and filled with a slice of cheese. After baking, top the chips with fresh lettuce and tomato slices and serve on a tray.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 450 g ground beef, 10% fat
  • 2 tbsp. taco seasoning
  • 16 bowl-shaped corn tortilla chips
  • 110 g Pepper Jack cheese, cut into 16 cubes
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tbsp. finely shredded romaine lettuce
  • 1 small plum tomato, diced
  • Hot sauce, for serving

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Position a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Place the rack on a baking sheet and generously spray it with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, taco seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon salt with your hands until evenly combined.

  3. Place 1 heaping tablespoon of the meat mixture on the wire rack (about 16 pieces total), then form them into balls with your hands. Press a piece of tortilla chip onto the surface of each meatball, pushing the meat up the sides (be careful not to break the chips). Place 1 cube of cheese in the center of each chip.
  4. Bake, rotating the pan halfway through, until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is melted, about 8 minutes.
  5. Transfer the appetizer to a large platter, top with a dollop of sour cream, and sprinkle with lettuce leaves and tomatoes. Serve with hot sauce.
