Taco seasoning not only garnishes the rim of the glass, it also adds a zesty, spicy note to the Margarita. Make a syrup from taco seasoning and lime zest, strain, and use in cocktails. Store any leftover syrup in the refrigerator.

Ingredients:


Cocktail
  • Taco seasoning for garnishing glasses
  • Lime wedges for garnishing glasses and serving
  • 180 ml (3/4 cup) quality tequila
  • 120 ml (0.5 cup) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 120 ml (0.5 cup) Lime and Taco sugar syrup
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) orange liqueur

Lime and Taco Simple Syrup
  • Zest of 4 limes, cut into strips with a vegetable peeler
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tbsp. taco seasoning
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Mix some salt and taco seasoning in a bowl. Wet the rims of 6 martini or whiskey glasses with a lime wedge, then invert and press the rims into the seasoning to seal.
  • Step 2
  • Combine tequila, lime juice, syrup, orange liqueur, and a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake well until thoroughly chilled.
  • Step 3
  • Fill prepared glasses with ice, then strain the drink into the glasses. Garnish with lime wedges.
  • Step 4
  • Lime and Taco Simple Syrup:
    Yield: 2 tbsp.

    Place the lime zest in a heatproof bowl. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, taco seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 2 cups water. Bring the mixture to a full boil. Pour the hot syrup into the bowl with the zest and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain into a glass jar or other container and let it cool completely before using. The syrup can be refrigerated for up to 4 weeks.
