Plump Viennese waffles with a crisp, golden crust, topped with homemade strawberry sauce, are perfect for a summer breakfast or dessert. The sauce is quick and easy to make with fresh strawberries. You can make it while the waffles are frying, and everything will be ready at the same time.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


Waffles

  • 3 large eggs, separate the whites from the yolks
  • A pinch of cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of plain natural yogurt or 10% sour cream
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 cup premium flour
  • 3 tbsp. l. brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon

Strawberry sauce

  • 1 liter strawberries, hulled and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Juice and zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Beat the egg whites with cream of tartar using a mixer until stiff peaks form. In a bowl, combine the egg yolks, yogurt, vanilla, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon. Fold into the wet mixture and knead until smooth. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
  2. Grease a waffle iron with a little melted butter and preheat according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Place batter in waffle iron and cook until golden brown, about 3 1/2 to 5 minutes.

    Homemade strawberry sauce:
    In a small saucepan, combine strawberries, sugar, water, lemon zest, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and stir gently until the sauce thickens slightly. Serve the waffles with powdered sugar and strawberry sauce.
