Black beans cooked with green chili peppers and ground chipotle peppers create a mildly spicy and warming dish with a pleasant smoky flavor. To avoid long cooking times, use canned beans. With the right spices, their flavor will be deep and rich. Perfect for a side dish or as a filling for tacos or burritos.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 tbsp. l. rapeseed oil (canola)
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground chipotle pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 can (120g) diced green chili
  • 2 x 425g cans black beans, rinsed
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup cotija cheese

We recommend

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic, cumin, salt, chili powder, and cayenne pepper and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the green chili, beans, and broth and bring to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened, 5–7 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro leaves and cotija cheese.
