Italian sandwich - detailed recipe.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1/2 large onion, cut into thin rings
  • 1 loaf (30 cm)
  • 5 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 5 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 120 g of thinly sliced ​​Provolone cheese
  • 120 g thinly sliced ​​salami
  • 120 g of thinly sliced ​​cooked ham
  • 120 g thinly sliced ​​Mortadella sausage
  • 120 g thinly sliced ​​Capicola dry-cured ham
  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, finely chopped
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup sliced ​​pickled pepperoncini peppers (optional)
  • 3 plum-shaped tomatoes, cut into slices
  • 1.5 tsp dried oregano

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Soak the onion in cold water for 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, cut the loaf in half lengthwise, then scoop out some of the pulp. Drizzle the bottom half with 2 tablespoons of vinegar and olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. Layer the cheese and meat on the bottom half of the loaf. Drain the onion in a sieve, pat dry, and place it on top of the meat. Top with lettuce leaves, peppers, and tomatoes. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of vinegar and olive oil and sprinkle with oregano. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Drizzle the top half of the loaf with the remaining 1 tablespoon of vinegar and olive oil and top the sandwich. Then cut into quarters.
