Lab is a Lao meat salad that's also popular in Thailand. Make lab from stewed ground pork, tossed with dressing, onions, herbs, lemongrass, and a lime leaf, and wrap it in wheat pita bread or tortilla for a filling and delicious snack throughout the day.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 220 g of minced pork
  • 3.5 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp. l. glutinous rice powder
  • 0.5 tsp sugar
  • A small pinch of ground chili pepper
  • 1 tbsp red and white onions (thinly sliced ​​and mixed)
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro and green onions (chopped and mixed)
  • 1 tsp lime leaves (very thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp lemongrass (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large wheat tortilla (like for a burrito)
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a small saucepan, bring 0.5 cups of water to a boil. Add the pork and stir until the pork is cooked through. Turn off the heat and drain.
  2. Add lime juice, fish sauce, rice powder, sugar, and ground chili. Stir with a wooden spoon until the pork is evenly coated. Add red and white onions, cilantro and green onions, lime leaf, and lemongrass. Stir with a wooden spoon. This is lab.

  3. Heat the tortilla in a hot skillet until soft. Place the tortilla on a cutting board, spread with mayonnaise, and place the lab directly in the center of the tortilla. Roll it up like a burrito. A delicious and healthy lunch is ready!
  4. Rice powder:
    To make Thai rice powder at home, fry about 1 cup of uncooked jasmine rice in a pan with a small handful of galangal, a small handful of lime leaves, and a small handful of lemongrass. Stir the mixture over low heat until crisp and the rice begins to darken. Transfer the mixture to a food processor and pulse until it turns into a fine powder.
