Green beans are a great ingredient for a juicy and healthy Asian-inspired side dish that pairs well with any meat dish. In this recipe, blanched green beans are tossed with fragrant garlic oil, hot chili paste, and honey and then grilled until crispy. The beans turn out delicious, with a spicy, sweet flavor. Instructions for making garlic oil are included at the end of the recipe, and Valerie Bertinelli uses Korean gochujang chili paste for the spicy chili paste.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to grill mode.
- Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil and season generously with salt. Prepare an ice bath in a large bowl. Blanch the green beans in boiling water until tender but still crisp, about 2 minutes. Drain and immediately transfer the beans to the ice bath. Drain the beans and pat dry thoroughly.
- In a large bowl, combine the garlic oil, chili paste, honey, and salt to taste. Add the green beans and toss to coat. Transfer to 2 baking sheets and broil until the beans are golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Serve immediately.
- Garlic oil:
Combine olive oil and garlic in a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat and gently fry the garlic for 5 minutes; don't let the oil get too hot, or the garlic will burn. Remove from heat and cool completely. Once the garlic oil has cooled, remove the garlic.
Exit: 0.5 tbsp.
