To make this stunning holiday side dish, all you need is carrots, a little butter, a teaspoon of sugar, and fresh thyme. The carrots turn out glossy, look delicious when served, and their sweet and spicy flavor complements any meat or poultry perfectly.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 700 g carrots, peeled and cut into 2.5 cm pieces.
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme + extra for serving

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place the carrots in a single layer in a large, lidded skillet. Add enough water to half-cover the carrots, then add the butter, sugar, and thyme. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer.
  2. Cover and simmer over low heat until carrots are tender, 8 to 10 minutes.

  3. Remove the lid, increase the heat to high, and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has almost completely evaporated and the carrots are glazed. Discard the thyme sprigs, season the carrots with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with fresh thyme, if using.
