Carrots are simmered in hoisin sauce, infusing it with sweet and savory flavors, while a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds adds crunch and a subtle nutty flavor. A perfect side dish for grilled meat or chicken.

1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.

1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.

1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 450 g carrots, peeled and cut diagonally into 0.5 cm thick slices.
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Toast the sesame seeds in a large dry skillet over medium heat, stirring, until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a small plate and set aside.
  2. To the same pan, add the carrots, hoisin, butter, a pinch of salt, a few grinds of black pepper, and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium, cover, and simmer until the carrots are tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 20 minutes.

  3. Uncover the pan and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook until the liquid has thickened into a glaze, about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
