Even those who aren't vegetarians will love these black bean burgers. To ensure the patties retain their shape and texture, some of the beans are ground to a paste, while others are added whole. Breadcrumbs help bind the mixture. Serve the patties on toasted buns with other traditional burger toppings.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • Half a medium yellow onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 cans black beans, 425g each, rinsed separately
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves
  • 2 tsp chopped parsley leaves
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 cups breadcrumbs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

Additional fillings

  • 1 tomato, sliced ​​into rounds
  • 4 small leaves of romaine lettuce or any other type you have on hand
  • 1/4 cup ketchup

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-low heat.
  2. In a food processor, puree the onion and garlic. Add 1 can of black beans, cilantro, parsley, egg, and red pepper flakes and process.

  3. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl, add the remaining can of black beans and breadcrumbsAdd salt and pepper to taste and mix well.
  4. Divide 2/3 of the mixture among 4 portions and form into patties. Set aside the remaining mixture for another use, such as black bean enchiladas. Place the patties on an oiled grill and cook for about 6 minutes per side, or until heated through. Toast the buns on the grill. Place a patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, and ketchup. Top with the top halves of the buns and serve.
