Combine brown sugar with ancho and cayenne pepper and sprinkle the mixture over thin strips of bacon. When baked, the bacon will crisp up and develop a delicious, sweet-and-savory glaze. Serve the candied bacon as an appetizer or use it in salads and other dishes.

1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 450 g bacon strips
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground ancho pepper
  • 1/4 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 160°C and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the bacon dry with paper towels. Mix brown sugar, ancho powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper together and pour onto a large plate. Dredge the bacon in the mixture, coating it evenly on all sides, then place it on the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with the remaining spice mixture.

  3. Bake until the bacon is golden brown and glazed, turning once, 20-25 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
