A side dish of finely chopped green beans is much easier to eat with a spoon as a standalone dish. Fried bacon adds a rich flavor and a nice crunch to the texture. Adding lemon zest and chives at the end will enhance the flavor. For this dish, choose leaner bacon with thicker meat layers to ensure a lighter texture.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 450 g green and/or yellow wax beans, trimmed and cut into 1 cm pieces.
  • 4 strips lean bacon, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives
  • 1 lemon

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. In a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon, stirring, until browned and the fat has rendered, about 4 minutes. Add the green beans and 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and pepper and cook, stirring, until the beans are bright green. Add 2 tablespoons of water and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the beans are crisp-tender, about 6 minutes.
  2. Transfer the beans to a serving platter and stir in the chives. Grate the lemon zest directly over the beans, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
