If you're looking for a fun yet simple way to serve green beans, try cooking them Asian-style. First, blanch the beans to soften them while still retaining their crispness and vibrant green color. To do this, prepare a bowl of ice water or an ice bath next to the stove and immediately transfer the cooked beans into it. Then, fry them in butter, spices, and soy sauce for a couple of minutes. This will keep the beans from overcooking and coat them with a delicious soy sauce.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Fill a large saucepan with water, season generously with salt, and bring to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch until crisp-tender, 2-3 minutes. Immediately transfer to an ice bath to stop cooking, then transfer to a paper towel-lined baking sheet or a wire rack to drain.
- In a large skillet, heat the canola oil and butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted, add the garlic and stir until fragrant, 1-2 minutes. Add the green beans, soy sauce, and black pepper and cook until the sauce has reduced slightly and the beans are thoroughly coated, being careful not to overcook them.
- Transfer the beans to a serving platter, sprinkle with dill and serve hot.
