Fried cabbage is an incredibly simple, quick, and delicious side dish for almost any main course, whether it's festive meat or fried sausages. This dish, besides cabbage, contains just three ingredients: salt, black pepper, and butter, which imbues the cabbage with a wonderful flavor with light, creamy, nutty notes. You can use this fried cabbage recipe as a base, adding your favorite spices or herbs as desired.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1 small head of white cabbage, including outer green leaves (1.1 kg)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1.5 tsp coarse salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Cut the cabbage in half, place it cut side down, and shred as thinly as possible around the core, as for coleslaw. Discard the core.
  2. In a large skillet or heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the cabbage, salt, and black pepper and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and beginning to brown. Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
