Is that long-awaited game or movie about to start? Set out a big bowl of guacamole for a quick, tasty, and healthy snack. Traditional guacamole is ready in minutes and, in addition to avocado, contains onion (soak it in water while chopping the other ingredients), garlic, lime juice, fresh cilantro, tomato, and a fiery jalapeño pepper. If you prefer a spicier snack, you can leave the jalapeño seeds in. Mash all the ingredients with a fork to create a thick, chunky paste and serve with tortilla chips around it. Scoop up the guacamole and enjoy!

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • Half a small yellow onion or a quarter of a red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 0.5 tsp coarse salt
  • 2 ripe Hass avocados
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 - 3 tbsp coarsely chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 ripe plum tomato, core removed and diced
  • 1/4 to 1/2 jalapeno pepper (with seeds), finely chopped

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Soak the onions in cold water for 15 minutes. Drain and transfer to a large bowl.
  2. Place the garlic on a cutting board, sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and mash it with a chef's knife until it becomes a paste. Transfer the paste to the bowl with the onions.

  3. Cut the avocado in half. Remove the pits and discard. Using a knife, carefully make several slits in the avocado flesh. Scoop the avocado flesh into the bowl with the onion and garlic. Repeat with the remaining avocado.
  4. Add lime juice, cilantro, tomatoes, and jalapeño to the avocado to taste. Mix everything together, mashing with a rubber spatula or a large fork. The guacamole should still be chunky. Season with salt to taste. Serve immediately.

    Note

Here's a quick and easy way to remove the pit from an avocado: tap the pit with a knife blade and twist. The pit will pop out.
