Ingredients:

  • 250 g of cream cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • Grated zest and juice of 1 lime
  • 3/4 cup guava paste
  • 500 g frozen pie dough, defrosted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar) for sprinkling
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a food processor, combine cream cheese, eggs, sugar, lime zest and juice until smooth.

    Place 1 tablespoon of guava in the center of each piece of dough, then add 1 tablespoon of the mixture from the food processor. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges with a fork, pressing it into the dough to seal.
  • Step 2
  • Heat vegetable oil in a wide saucepan until a thermometer reads 180 degrees Celsius. Fry the empanadas in batches until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Let the oil return to the original temperature between batches. Transfer the empanadas to a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
