Ingredients:


Sopapijas
  • 4 wheat cakes 20-25 cm in diameter, cut into wedges or strips
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sugar for sprinkling

Chocolate sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp (45 g) butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Let's prepare the sauceIn a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup water, brown sugar, and salt to a boil. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the cocoa powder until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.

  • Cooking sopapillasHeat 1 cm of vegetable oil in a large, deep frying pan. If you have an oil thermometer, the temperature should read 180°C (350°F). Fry the tortillas in batches until golden brown and bubbly on each side, 1 to 2 minutes per batch. Transfer the cooked sopapiillas to a paper-lined plate to absorb excess oil and sprinkle both sides with sugar. Drizzle with chocolate sauce.
