Juicy turkey meatballs are baked in a sweet and sour tomato sauce with orange, peach jam, chili sauce, and spices. Serve as a main course with a side dish or as an appetizer, skewered on each meatball.

Ingredients:


Sweet and sour sauce
  • 1 can (560 g) of tomato sauce
  • 1 cup peach jam
  • 1 cup chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • Zest and juice of half an orange
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp homemade spice mix

Meatballs
  • 700 g of ground turkey
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. Japanese panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp. grated parmesan
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley leaves
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 175°C.
  • Step 2
  • Sweet and sour sauce:

    In a medium saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, peach preserves, chili sauce, sugar, orange zest, orange juice, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and spice mix. Simmer the sauce while you cook the meatballs.

    Spice mix:
    Use this flavorful spice blend on chicken, taco fillings, or mayonnaise.

    Combine 1 1/2 cups paprika, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons onion powder in an airtight container.
  • Step 3
  • Meatballs:

    In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, shallots, panko, Parmesan, egg, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly. Form the meat mixture into walnut-sized balls and place in a single layer in a 9x13 inch baking dish.

  • Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the meatballs, cover with foil, and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes. Serve with skewers as an appetizer.
