Onions stuffed with cheese - detailed recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-sized unpeeled onions
  • 60 ml olive oil
  • Salt and ground black pepper
  • 1 cup of cream
  • 225g grated Kasseri cheese plus 110g grated cheese for garnish
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 205°C.

    Trim the tops and a little of the bottom off the onions to make them stand upright. Place them on a baking sheet and drizzle with a little olive oil. Season with salt and pepper and place in the oven. Bake for 45-60 minutes until the onions are soft. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  • Step 2
  • In a small saucepan, cook the cream over medium-high heat until it thickens enough to run off a spoon. Season with salt and pepper.

    Peel the onions and scoop out a small piece from the center of each. Finely chop the pieces and add to the cream. Stuff the onions with 225 g of Kasseri cheese, return the onions to the oven and heat for 5 minutes.

    Using a spatula, remove the onions from the baking sheet and place them on a serving plate. Gently warm the cream for about a minute and spoon it over the onions. Sprinkle with the remaining Kasseri cheese.
