Rob Roy Cocktail

How to Make the Rob Roy Cocktail
Kitchen:American,
Time: 5 min.
Complexity: easily
Servings: 1

The popular Rob Roy cocktail was invented in 1894 in New York City in a bar near Broadway, where the operetta "Rob Roy," about the Scottish national hero, was premiering. This drink differs from the equally popular Manhattan only in that it uses exclusively Scotch whiskey instead of American bourbon, which is also mixed with sweet vermouth, tinted with Angostura, and served with a maraschino cherry.

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml Scotch whiskey
  • 30 ml sweet Italian vermouth
  • A little orange bitters or Angostura
  • Maraschino cherry
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Fill a cocktail shaker or small pitcher with ice. Add whiskey, vermouth, and bitters. Cover and shake vigorously or stir until the cocktail is chilled, about 30 seconds. (In other words, when the shaker fogs up, the drink is ready.) Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry and serve.
