Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Mix mustard and mayonnaise in a small bowl. Take 3 slices white bread and spread about 1 teaspoon of the mustard mixture on each. Place a slice of cheese, turkey, and ham on each slice of bread. Top with a second slice of bread and spread another 1 teaspoon of the mustard mixture; top each sandwich with another slice of cheese, turkey, and ham. Spread the remaining 3 slices of bread with the mustard mixture and place them on the sandwiches, mustard side down.
  • Step 2
  • Trim the bread crusts and then wrap the sandwiches tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 6 hours. The wrap will help keep them tightly sealed.
  • Step 3
  • Combine the eggnog and nutmeg in a shallow bowl. Unwrap the sandwiches and dip them in the eggnog, turning to coat both sides. Melt half the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown. Add the remaining butter, flip the sandwiches, and cook until golden brown on the other side, another 3 minutes.
  • Step 4
  • Cut the Monte Cristo sandwiches into quarters. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve with cranberry sauce.
