How to Make Corn Tortillas

Recipe for making Mexican corn flour tortillas at home.


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups corn flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tbsp. lard
  • 1.5 cups of water
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Pour corn flour, salt into a deep bowl, add lard and knead the dough thoroughly.

    Add water and mix until smooth. The dough should be slightly damp. Wet your hands, form the dough into a ball, and divide it into 12 pieces. Roll the balls. Place the ball on parchment paper and press it with your hand to form a round patty.

    Then cover with another sheet of parchment paper and roll the dough out with a rolling pin into a circle 17 cm in diameter and 0.3 mm thick. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.

  • Fry the tortillas in a preheated nonstick skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes per side. Line the tortillas with parchment paper.
