Galaxy Cake
Complexity: average
Servings: 8
Galaxy cakes have become popular thanks to their stunning colors, reminiscent of a starry night sky, the Northern Lights, or an Arctic landscape. Furthermore, this combination of different shades of blue looks quite unusual and versatile. This decor is perfect for a holiday or a themed party. At first glance, the Galaxy cake may seem complicated, but it's all about the multicolored icing, and you can use a simple layer cake with cream as a base. Yes, professionals make this icing mirror-like, but if you combine the shades correctly, your matte cake will look no less impressive and stylish.
Galaxy cakes have taken Instagram by storm, but getting the mirror glaze right the first time can be quite challenging. Instead, we came up with a simplified version using store-bought glaze*.

Recipe:
Put it round layer cake Place the cake in an inverted cake pan set on a baking sheet and cover with a thin, even layer of white frosting. Using gel food coloring, tint 2 cups of frosting dark blue, then tint another 1/2 cup of frosting aqua, 1/2 cup violet, and 1/2 cup royal blue. Microwave the dark blue frosting in 30-second intervals until very runny, then repeat with the other colors. Working quickly, pour the dark blue frosting over the cake until it's completely covered and dripping down the sides of the pre-chilled cake. Then drizzle the remaining blue frosting over the cake and smooth the frosting with an offset spatula. Using a small pastry brush, drizzle the cake with white food coloring, sprinkle with edible glitter, and let the icing set again.
You can find food coloring, sprinkles, and edible glitter on the Sweet Crafts shelf for confectioners. It's sold in large stores specializing in food production products, catering supplies, and cafes..
