Breadsticks with pesto and mozzarella

These Italian-style breadsticks, baked according to this simple recipe, will be a hit among the appetizers at your party. To make them, you'll need just three ingredients: store-bought croissant puff pastry, mozzarella, and pesto sauce (plus a handful of flour for working with the dough). You'll get beautiful, crispy twists filled with cheese and fragrant pesto, leaving you plenty of time to spend with friends instead of in the kitchen. Serve warm. They're delicious on their own or with dipping sauces.


Ingredients:

  • 1 tube (220 g) chilled croissant dough
  • Premium flour for working with dough
  • 1 cup grated semi-skimmed mozzarella (about 140 g)
  • 1/4 cup store-bought basil pesto
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 190°C. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • On a lightly floured work surface, unroll the croissant dough and gently stretch it into a 14 x 8-inch rectangle. Using a pizza cutter or sharp chef's knife, cut the dough in half to create two 7.5 x 8-inch rectangles. Using a small offset spatula or the back of a spoon, spread 2 tablespoons of pesto over the top half of each rectangle, then sprinkle each half evenly with 1/2 cup of mozzarella. Fold the bottom half of the dough up to enclose the mozzarella and pesto, and gently press the edges to seal.
  • Step 3
  • Cut each rectangle into 8 strips, each 1 cm wide. Gently twist each strip several times to prevent the filling from leaking out, then place on the prepared baking sheet and pinch the ends to seal. Refrigerate the breadsticks for 30 minutes. Bake until dark golden brown, 12-15 minutes. Serve the breadsticks warm.
