Ingredients:

  • 600 g of beef sirloin steak (approximately 2.5 cm thick), boneless, trim off excess fat
  • 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 large onion, cut into 5mm thick rings.
  • 2 sweet peppers, cut into 1cm thick slices.
  • 4 canned pepperoncini peppers, thinly sliced
  • 400 g canned pureed tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • A pinch of dried flakes pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Italian focaccia bread, for serving (optional)
  • Salt
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Rub the steak with 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the steak in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer the meat to a platter.
  • Step 2
  • Add the garlic to the pan and cook briefly. Add the onion and bell peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables have softened slightly, about 4 minutes. Add the pepperoncini peppers, pureed tomatoes, oregano, pepper flakes, and 3/4 cup water, stir, and bring to a boil.

    Place the steak in the sauce and simmer gently, turning once, for about 7 minutes. Remove the steak from the sauce and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Continue cooking the sauce until it thickens, about 3 minutes more.

  • Slice the steak thinly across the grain and divide into portions. Top with pizzaiola sauce and sprinkle with parsley. Serve with focaccia.
