Jamaican Meat Pies - A Detailed Recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 450 g of ground beef
  • 2 packs of ready-made yeast dough
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, finely diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp. water
  • Additional equipment: cookie cutter with a diameter of 8 cm.
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, paprika, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Stir, then add the jalapeño pepper. Remove from heat and add the breadcrumbs and beef broth. Mix well and let cool completely.
  • Step 2
  • Preheat oven to 205°C.

    In a small bowl, combine egg, curry powder and water.

    Place the pie dough on a work surface and cut out 8cm diameter circles with a cookie cutter.

    Place a heaping tablespoon of the prepared filling on each circle. Fold the dough circle in half and pinch the edges with your fingers. Press the edges with a fork. Transfer the pies to a baking sheet and brush the tops with the egg mixture. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes.

    Place on a serving platter and serve.
