Swiss chard is sautéed in a pan with chickpeas, onions, and spices, creating a delicious side dish rich in protein and fiber that can be served with meat dishes. Use the entire bunch of Swiss chard, including the leaves and the tougher stems, sautéing them a little before the greens. Drizzle with lemon juice at the very end.


Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch chard
  • 1 can (425 g) chickpeas
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, optional
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Chop 1 bunch of Swiss chard. Sauté the stems over medium heat with 1 chopped onion and 1 red jalapeño until softened, 3 minutes; season with salt.
  • Step 2
  • Add one can of chickpeas, draining the liquid into a separate bowl; cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Add 2 crushed garlic cloves; cook for 30 seconds. Add the chard leaves with the chickpea liquid and 0.5 teaspoon of ground cumin; cook until the chard is wilted. Add the juice of half a lemon.
