You don't have to live on the coast to enjoy a New England-style seafood boilie. Use locally available shrimp. Simmer potatoes with seasonings in a slow cooker, then add corn, shrimp, and smoked sausage. It's a delicious and flavorful dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup seafood seasoning, such as Old Bay
  • 2 large ears of yellow corn, cut into 2.5cm thick slices.
  • 600 g large shrimp in shells, without intestinal veins
  • 200g smoked Polish sausage, halved lengthwise and cut into 5cm pieces.
  • 3 cloves garlic, lightly crushed
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 medium onions, each cut into 8 wedges
  • 0.5 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Crustless bread, for serving
  • 1.3 kg very small red potatoes (about 2.5 cm in size)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the potatoes, garlic, bay leaf, onion, 2 tablespoons of seafood seasoning in a 6-quart slow cooker and pour in 4 cups of water. Stir. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Step 2
  • Remove the lid and reduce the heat to high. Carefully add the corn, shrimp, sausage, and the remaining 2 tablespoons of seafood seasoning. Cover and cook until the shrimp are pink and the sausage is heated through, 30-45 minutes. Gently stir in the parsley and lemon juice.
  • Step 3
  • Serve straight from the slow cooker or transfer the boilie to a large bowl and serve immediately with bread.
