The secret to these incredibly delicious and tender wings is that they're slowly simmered in a sweet and spicy Chinese barbecue sauce in a slow cooker. To ensure the wings are deliciously crispy, quickly grill them in the oven at the very end to caramelize the sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1.3 kg chicken wings, cut in half (tips removed)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons lightly salted soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce

  • 1/4 tsp Chinese Five Spice Powder

    Step 1
  • Place the chicken wings in a slow cooker and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of salt. In a small bowl, combine the honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, and five-spice powder.
  • Step 2
  • Pour the sauce over the wings and toss. Cover and cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, until the wings are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly, about 2.5 hours.

  • Preheat the oven to broil. Line a baking sheet with foil. Using tongs or a slotted spoon, transfer the wings to the baking sheet.

  • Drizzle about 1/2 cup of sauce over the wings; discard any remaining sauce. Grill in the oven, turning once, until golden brown, about 6 minutes. Sprinkle with green onions and serve hot.
