Slow Cooker Cuban Sandwich - A Step-by-Step Recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 1.4 - 1.6 kg boneless pork shoulder
  • 1 sub sandwich bun, 61 cm long.
  • 450 g thinly sliced ​​honey ham
  • 450 g thick-sliced ​​Swiss cheese
  • 2 cups of pickled cucumber slices
  • Mustard
  • 2 red onions, thinly sliced ​​into half rings
  • 3-4 crushed cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp coarse salt
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
  • Juice of 1 lime (2 tbsp)
  • Juice of 1 orange (2 tbsp)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a small bowl, combine the oil, salt, cumin, oregano, black pepper, red pepper, garlic, lime juice, and orange juice. Using a paring knife, score the pork and rub it thoroughly with the oil mixture. Place the pork in the slow cooker and pour the remaining juices from the bowl over it. Cover and cook on low until tender, about 6 hours, turning once halfway through.
  • Step 2
  • Remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it cool slightly. Shred the meat with two forks. Keep the pork warm in the slow cooker by submerging it in the remaining juices.

    Cut the bun in half lengthwise and spread mustard on both sides. Top with cheese, ham, pork slices, and pickles. Place an onion on one half and slice into portions. Or start eating from opposite ends: whoever gets to the middle first.
