Watermelon Mai Tai cocktail

How to Make a Watermelon Mai Tai
Time: 10 min.
Complexity: easily
Quantity: 1 cocktail

The Mai Tai cocktail, with its refreshing, tropical appearance and taste, evokes a sense of bliss and summer. It was invented in 1944 by Vic Trader, the owner of a Polynesian restaurant in the United States. When he prepared the drink for guests from Tahiti, one of them called it "the best thing in the world," which in Tahitian is "Maita'i."

Traditionally, the cocktail is made with rum, lime juice, sugar, and liqueur. It's served over ice and topped with tropical fruit juice, typically pineapple or orange. But mix it with watermelon, and you'll experience a truly heavenly experience.

  • 0.5 cup diced watermelon, seeds removed
  • 3 tbsp rum
  • 2 tablespoons St. Germain elderflower liqueur
  • Juice of one lime plus 1 lime wedge for garnish
  • 1 tbsp. ultrafine sugar
  • Ice for serving
