Ingredients:
- 450 g of fried steak (from beef flank)
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced pickled banana peppers, plus 1/2 cup pickling liquid
- 1/2 tbsp. hummus (recipe) Homemade hummus)
- 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 4 Arabian pitas whole grain flour (wholemeal flour)
- 8 leaves romaine lettuce, thinly sliced
- Hot sauce for serving (optional)

Preparation:
- Step 1
- Combine the red onion and banana peppers with the marinade in a bowl and let marinate for a while. Drain and pat dry. In another bowl, whisk together the hummus and 3-4 tablespoons of water until smooth. Step 2
- Cut the steak against the grain, then slice at an angle into small pieces, mix the meat with a tablespoon of olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Step 3
- Rub the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over each pitta on one side, season with salt and pepper. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium heat. Place the pitas on the grill, oiled side down, and lightly grill for about 1 minute.
Place on a cutting board. Arrange the pieces on the pitas. steak, red onion, peppers, romaine lettuce, drizzle with hummus; fold the filled pitas in half. Serve the Arabic sandwiches with hot sauce and any side dish.
