Ingredients:

  • One bottle (330 ml) of chilled Mexican beer, such as Dos Equis Amber
  • 1/4 cup coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili seasoning
  • Juice of 1 lime and 1 lime wedge
  • 2 cups of ice
  • 90 ml tomato juice (1/3 cup)
  • 4 dashes Tabasco hot sauce
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Mix salt and chili seasoning in a shallow bowl. Wet the rim of a tall beer glass with lime, then dip the rim in chili salt. Fill the glass with ice.
  • Step 2
  • Pour in lime juice, tomato juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and beer. Stir lightly. Garnish with a lime wedge.

    Chef's advice


    For a large gathering, make the tomato mixture before guests arrive. Combine tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and lime juice, and chill thoroughly. Add a few slices of jalapeño for extra heat. Before serving, rim the glasses with chili salt and fill with ice. Pour 60 ml (1/4 cup) of the tomato mixture into each glass and top with beer.
