Christmas Tree Pizza

How to Make Christmas Tree Pizza
Time: 40 min.
Complexity: easily
Servings: 6 - 8

Ree Drummond suggests baking a beautiful pizza in the shape of a decorated Christmas tree for New Year's or Christmas. It looks charming and is delicious. Balls of dough are used to form the base of the tree, which is then coated with sauce, sprinkled with mozzarella, and decorated with garlands of sweet peppers, cherry tomato ornaments, and pepperoni. To make the tree trunk look realistic and also delicious, sprinkle it with a mixture of Italian herbs. This pizza is served as an appetizer: guests can tear off a small bun from the tree and enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 2 jars of chilled pizza dough (300g each)
  • 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup store-bought Alfredo sauce

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 200°C, Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • Divide the dough into 23 pieces. Form each piece into a small ball. Assemble the dough into a Christmas tree: line up a row of 6 dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, followed by a row of 5 balls, a row of 4 balls, then 3 balls, 2, and finally 1. Be sure to leave some space between the balls, about 0.5-1 cm, as they will rise during baking.
  • Step 3
  • Cut each of the two remaining balls in half to make 4 pieces. Place them cut-side down at the base of the tree in 2 rows of 2 pieces to form the trunk.
  • Step 4
  • Using your hands or a rolling pin, flatten the dough until the buns touch. Brush the tops of the dough with half the olive oil and sprinkle with 1.5 teaspoons of Italian seasoning. Bake for 10 minutes. While the tree is baking, combine the Alfredo and pesto in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Step 5
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and brush the dough with the remaining half of the olive oil. Using a spoon or spatula, spread the sauce over the tree, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle with mozzarella. Decorate the tree with a garland of sweet peppers and cherry tomato and pepperoni balls. Sprinkle the tree trunk with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Bake until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden, another 15 minutes.
  • Step 6
  • Transfer the pizza to a serving board. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
